My Story

The following year, I attended a masterclass in Venice, exploring the historical art of perfume-making. This deepened my passion for creating with intention and led me to the traditional craft of cold process soap-making. Using olive oil as a base and minimal, skin-loving ingredients, I embraced the beauty of simplicity — for our bodies and for the planet.

Craving a slower pace and a closer connection to nature, we moved to a smallholding in Cornwall. From a market shed in Porthleven, I introduced Alkemi to its first customers and became part of a generous, creative community of makers. Plant goddesses, glass artists, and kindred spirits shaped those early years and grounded Alkemi in place, people, and craft.

But life has a way of shifting priorities. By the end of 2018, with the pressure of making Alkemi financially sustainable, I returned to consulting. The pandemic brought further change — markets paused, and work moved online. In 2021, I made the difficult decision to pause Alkemi and focus on my career and family.

The years that followed were shaped by loss, reflection, and resilience. The passing of my mother in 2023, followed by my great aunt, and the sudden loss of my job in 2024, brought profound change. In that space, clarity emerged — a desire to live more intentionally, creatively, and in closer alignment with my values.

Today, Alkemi is a reflection of that clarity.

Each candle, soap, and botanical blend is crafted by hand in small batches, infused with pure essential oils, and designed to support everyday rituals of care and calm. Alkemi is about creating space — to pause, to breathe, and to reconnect with yourself and the natural world.
